CRISIS INTERVENTION

The primary goal of crisis intervention is to link people in need with qualified support.

What is considered a crisis?

  • Suicidal Thoughts

  • Substance Use

  • Domestic Abuse

  • Mental Health Issues

  • Emotional Distress

  • Concern for the Safety of a Loved One

The crisis support lifeline serves anyone who is in a moment of distress and is seeking support.

What happens when you call or text the crisis lifeline?

Moment of crisis.

You experience a moment of crisis.

That doesn’t just mean imminent risk for suicide; it’s any painful emotion, issue, mental health crisis, difficult time, or rough patch for which you need support.

Crisis intervention with a counselor.

You call 988.

Your call is routed to the Lifeline network. A trained crisis counselor answers the phone, listens to you, works to understand how your problem is affecting you, provides support, and shares resources if needed.

Healing after crisis intervention.

Your counselor helps you transition from a crisis to a calm, safe place.

Generally, the conversation will come to an end when both you and the Counselor feel satisfied and assured that you have moved from the hot moment to a safe place.
